Lesson 23: Rights of Students

Rights of Students

Love and Kindness: It is first duty of a teacher to show parental love to students. Holy Prophet said that I am for you like I am for my son (Abu Daud). It means that attitude of a teacher to students should be as to his real sons. If a teacher is deprived of feelings of love and kindness, then students will not respect him. If a student. makes any mistake, then he should point out in a very kind manner.

Sincerity of Intention: It is obligation of a teacher to acquire knowledge with sincere intention and to earn reward from,Allah. He should impórt knowledge as it is to his students. He must not be miser in sharing knowledge. His efforts and intention should be to benefit more people through his knowledge. Hazrat Malik bin Dinar, said, "The one who acquires knowledge for his own self, then his knowledge reduces and the one who gains for others, his knowledge increases.

Spirit of Sacrifice: There ought to be the spirit of sacrifice in a teacher so that he prefers benefit of children over his own benefit. Then he will work with more commitment and he will be ready always for guidance of students. This will be a factor to increase his respect and honor. Therefore, he will be able to produce- same traits among his pupils. A rigid and unkind person can not be a successful teacher.

Moral Training of Students: It is duty of a teacher to provide moral and religious training of students. He should forbid them from bad deeds and invite to perform good deeds. It is possible only when a trainer himself is practical in his- approach and has Islamic morality. The purpose of the Prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad is described as teacher of book and wisdom and purifier of sensual desires. The Holy Prophet purified his companions spiritually and.. took them to the heights of good morality.

Practical Model: A teacher should abide by religious deeds because a teacher is a practical model in front of the students. The students follow (rather copy) the ways of their teacher. If teacher himself is pious and scholar, then students will also be bound to good deeds.

Prayer: It is mandatory for a teacher to pray for success of his students, so that students achieve their destination successfully.
